Photonics
- photo -
The PHOTO team carries out research in nano-/micro-technology to develop photonic components and their combination to facilitate the use and deployment of embedded optical systems. Our activities focus on diversifying the range of integrated functions that can be implemented, reducing dimensions, improving energy efficiency and even enhancing robustness and reliability. This work draws on the complementary expertise of team members in nanophotonics, manufacturing processes (III-V semiconductor technology, hybrid on glass or silicon), and characterization/instrumentation.
Advanced sources
The aim of our work is to increase the monolithic integration potential of photonic components, particularly optical sources, which are key components of photonic systems. The goal is to demonstrate integrated optical sources with advanced spectral and temporal control functionalities.
Wavefront engineering
The Photonics team is focused on the development of integrated optical functions on III-V, glass or silicon substrates, in order to demonstrate the possibilities of processing the wavefront between source and sensor to shape a passive and/or active function.
Instrumentation
The Photo team's developments of new photonic and photovoltaic materials, components and systems require multiphysics characterization benches (optical, electrical, thermal, mechanical). The team is backed by recognized instrumentation expertise and a number of dedicated test benches.
Micro-nano technologies
The development of innovative hardware components for the photonic sciences relies on advances in micro-nano technologies. Our work is therefore based on cleanroom research carried out in close collaboration with the TEAM department, and aims to overcome the obstacles to the material integration of photonic components, from materials development to the demonstration of complex multi-level processes.
Energy, conversion, detection
The PHOTO team covers a wide field of research applied to energy, photo-conversion and photo-detection. Our studies focus on the interactions between the elementary excitations, photovoltaic cells based on III-V semiconductors, hybrid systems for solar energy harvesting, thermophotovoltaic conversion, and hyperspectral imaging.
