Reduce our paper prints

500 printed sheets = 7.25 kg CO2 (consumption of a computer during 27 days in standby = 42 km by car) (cf  POURQUOI ET COMMENT CONSOMMER MOINS DE PAPIER AU BUREAU)
Objective:
Field:
Status:
Context
Paper consumption:

8T of paper bought per year at LAAS (stable)

  • 1.5T for printing (theses, brochures, etc.)
  • 6.5T to mainly supply printers (we do not count the new sheets used as draft!)
    • 700 people at LAAS ➔ 9.3 kg per person per year
    • i.e. 3.7 reams per person per year (1 ream weighs 2.5 kg)
    • i.e. 1857 sheets per person per year (1 ream contains 500 sheets)

How printers work:

  • It always drags print jobs through printers that no one is picking up
  • No trace of who initiated the print, so not too much accountability
  • The teams buy the equipment but then the general interest pays for the paper, the toners, the maintenance
Objectives
On the printing side, it is difficult to identify avenues for reducing paper consumption (for example, theses are printed in 15 copies + 2 for LAAS).
The goal is therefore to reduce personal impressions.
