Over the past two decades, integrated photonics have become a domain of intense research
for the development of high-performance embedded sensors and telecommunication devices.
Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICS) are in fact already driving communication and sensing
performances in mainstream applications.
As a result, a new training course in integrated photonics is now available at N7. To improve
the pedagogical content of this course, the aim of this internship would be threefold:
- To develop a polysilicon photonic process flow
- To characterize polysilicon technology
- To implement fundamental photonics components such as directional coupler, grating
coupler, Mach Zehnder interferometer, micro-ring resonator, Y splitter.

Work environment:
The candidate will work in close collaboration with the OASIS research team (optical Sensors
and Smart Integrated Systems) of LAAS-CNRS located at ENSEEIHT in Toulouse. He/She will also be working in close collaboration with the LAAS TEAM (Technique and Equipment Applied to Micro-nano technologies). The candidate will have access to the LAAS-CNRS cleanroom to perform all the technological processes (e-beam lithography, laser lithography, etching, deposition) as well as the pedagogical cleanroom of AIME on the INSA Campus. The candidate will be expected to use the Ansys Lumerical and KLayout software for the design tasks
Desired competences and personality:
-Knowledge in one or several of the following topics: Electrics, Optics or integrated photonics, Micro-Technologies and Instrumentation.
-Autonomy and a keen sense of problem solving.
-Experience in simulation and experimentation.
-Creative, conscientious and focused personality.
-A strong interest in research in physics and engineering, with good analytical and learning ability
