Job description

In the scope of advanced CMOS technologies for mmW applications, you will join a team within STMicroelectronics' R&D organization, in partnership with the LAAS-CNRS MOST team. Your research will focus in finding new design solutions using sampling mixer technics. The goal will be to improve the performances of mmW receivers (automotive radar and beyond 5G communications) in CMOS. Among the task you will perform, you will:

- Develop an analytical model, able to predict the performance of sampling mixers, in term of linearity and noise.

- Propose receivers' architectures, using your model outcomes, capable of improving the state of the art.

- Design a demonstrator, in 18nm SOI CMOS, as proof of concept.

- Carry out the characterizations and publish your results.

The PhD will be supervised by ST Microelectronics (Crolles) and the LAAS-CNRS lab (Toulouse).

Your profile

On top of creativity, this work will require rigor, tenacity and curiousity. The candidate will be BAC+5 graduated (Master II or engineering school) with a strong background in analog electronic, RF circuit design and signal processing. Preferably, the candidate will have performed an internship in the field of RF design.

Type of contract: CIFRE contract
Contract duration: 36 months
Thesis start date: September 2, 2024
Work quota: Full time
Job location: first half at LAAS, Toulouse and the second half at ST, Crolles.
