Frequency Combs and Optical Frequency Synthesis

Highly pure optical sources and compact optical frequency comb generators are essential components for the development of sensors or ultra-high-performance spectral analysis systems...

Our work on optical resonators with very high quality factors (Q) is also benefit to field of frequency stabilization and phase noise reduction in lasers. With our technology of miniaturized fiber resonators, a Q factor of one billion and a finesse of several thousand or tens of thousands are now achievable. The lasers referenced to these resonators are both compact and state-of-the-art in terms of linewidth or phase noise. These resonators can also be optimized to generate optical frequency combs through Kerr effect (or any other nonlinear effect). Stabilizing and optimizing these micro-frequency combs is a challenging issue both theoretically and practically. It may lead to optical frequency generation systems equivalent to those existing in the microwave domain, offering high spectral purity and stability.
