Frugal approaches to environmental measurement


This research topic aims to explore new routes for developing environmental sensors to meet the needs for increasing the spatial and temporal resolution of measurements in-situ or in-natura. To do this, we are trying to exploit the advanced developments of components off-the-shelf (COTS) for consumer electronics (smartphone, IoT, etc.) for in-situ environmental measurement, relying on rapid prototyping methods ( 3D printing, xurography), and on open-source and open-hardware approaches to promote the adoption and replication of the sensors developed.
