The official inauguration of buildings A and B, renovated under the 2015-2020 CPER programme, took place on 14 March 2025, after several years of renovation and energy-efficiency work on the most energy-inefficient buildings.

LAAS-CNRS is one of the first projects under the CNRS policy to improve energy and environmental performance.

In 2010, buildings A and B, built in 1968, were classified as energy-intensive, with high energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

As part of the 2015-2020 CPER, Région Occitanie and CNRS made it possible to carry out an initial rrenovation of building A and financed the project in equal parts.

Building B comprises a robotics hall, a mechanical workshop, an electronics workshop, manipulation rooms and associated offices and meeting rooms. The interior refurbishment work now meets the specific needs of the research platforms and is designed to be in phase with new working methods, with greater comfort, optimisation and ergonomics.

The opportunity for LAAS-CNRS to have been a pilot laboratory for the CNRS with its energy renovation programme, as well as the support of the Occitanie Region, have enabled us to make significant energy savings, with a reduction of more than 50% in our consumption since 2017 and an improvement in our carbon footprint.

In addition to building renovation, the energy transition is the core of the laboratory's research, with the ambition of developing innovative technologies that are more energy-efficient and sustainable, both in terms of materials and overall system management.

We are also committed to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions, by further integrating the challenges of the ecological transition and sustainable development into the management of our technology platforms as well as our working environment and practices.
