Ruggero Lot receives the Best Student Paper Award at NMDC 2021
Ruggero Lot, PhD student within the M3 - Multi-scale Modeling of Materials team at LAAS-CNRS, co-directed with SISSA (Trieste, Italy), has received the Best Student Paper Award at the 16th Nanotechnology Materials and Devices Conference (IEEE NMDC 2021) which has held from december 12nd to 15th 2021 in Vancouver, Canada.
He was awarded for his work entitled "Developing a Neural Network Potential to Investigate Interface Phenomena in Solid Phase Epitaxy". His thesis is directed by Anne Hemeryck (M3 team, LAAS-CNRS, thesis director) and Stefano De Gironcoli (SISSA, Trieste, Italy).
Ruggero gave an oral presentation on the development of an interatomic potential for silicon material, based on neural network methods. One of the objectives of his PhD work is to provide a new energetic model of interaction between atoms to simulate the reorganisation of atoms in materials using atomic scale modelling approaches, including molecular dynamics. In his PhD, he simulates manufacturing processes of integrated material, such as the recrystallisation of silicon after its amorphisation due to doping processes.
