This paper proposes an approach for self-deploying services within collaborative sessions composed of remote heterogeneous user nodes. The deployment goal is modeled by a graph that describes the session structure. From this graph, the proposed decentralized deployment algorithm finds out the optimal configuration of services which satisfies the relevant session node. In accordance with the self-management paradigms, the service configuration found is automatically deployed on node. A deployment platform called collaborative deployment system (CDS) has been designed and implemented on top of a peer-to-peer layer to carry on the whole deployment process. CDS is mainly composed of: (1) deployment entities modeling services; (2) P2P communication services (announcements, search and retrieval services) adapted for deployment; and (3) deployment algorithm implementation. Performance is assessed by focusing on the most important parts of the platform: (1) the deployment algorithm assessment and (2) the P2P networking assessment.

Ubiquitous computing environments are complex systems containing a great amount of heterogeneous devices and services available to users. Both user needs and services offered to them evolve very fast. This evolution requires the adaptation of the software architectures that support user activities. Moreover, such adaptation must be based on application semantics in order to better respond to user needs in any situation. This paper presents a work in progress that aims to build an architecture enabling the development of adaptive collaborative applications in ubiquitous computing environments. An ontology model, containing generic collaboration knowledge as well as domain-specific knowledge, is proposed in order to enable architecture adaptation and to support spontaneous and implicit sessions inside groups of humans and devices.

This paper proposes a decentralized algorithm to carry out the deployment of services within sessions composed of heterogeneous networked nodes. An initial deployment goal is specified by using a graph, which describes how the session is intended to be structured. The graph is used by a deployment algorithm to find out the optimal configuration of services that satisfies this goal. Then the configuration is deployed automatically. A generic Peer-to-Peer (P2P) platform has been designed and implemented to support the deployment algorithm. This platform allows creating customized models to describe context, service and any other entity required in the deployment. It also provides mechanisms to advertise generic contents like services, discover others and perform download tasks in a P2P way.
