Abstract

In this paper, we propose selected research topics that are believed central to progress and growth in the application of systems engineering (SE). As a professional activity, and as an intellectual activity, systems engineering has strong links to such associated disciplines as decision analysis, operation research, project management, quality management, and systems design. When focussing on systems engineering research, we should distinguish between subjects that are of systems engineering essence and others that more closely correspond to those that are more relevant for related disciplines.

Abstract

This paper concentrates on modeling systems engineering (SE) processes contained within the product management lifecycle (PLM). Both SE and PLM are concerned with managing the multiple views and interrelationships of system information to maintain consistency, so that it can be applied to more than one product [1]. Our work focuses primarily on the system design, product realization, and technical evaluation processes. The core concept is to make use of the available SE tools and standards, to develop a model based on SysML language, where the PLM ensures the processes are successfully linked.
