In the huge literature dedicated to stability of time-delay systems, the most popular approach remains the use of Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals. This framework allows to study a large class of time-delay systems including constant or time-varying delays. Since several years, the main challenge is to propose new functionals and techniques for deriving less and less conservative stability conditions. Nevertheless, all these approaches usually adopt the same procedure which is based on the well-known Jensen's inequality which generally induces some conservatism difficult to overcome. This paper analyses firstly the conservatism induced by the Jensen's inequality and secondly proposes a wide class of new parametrized inequalities. All these are based on an extensive use of Wirtinger inequality which has been recently introduced in Liu and Fridman [2012] and Seuret and Gouaisbaut [2012b] for stability analysis.

Anomaly detection has been an active open problem in the networks community for several years. In this brief, we aim at detecting such abnormal signals by control theory techniques. Several classes of sliding mode observers are proposed for a fluid flow model of the transmission control protocol (TCP)/internet protocol network. Comparative simulations via network simulator NS-2 show the enhancement brought by a higher order sliding mode observer. The efficiency of this observer opens the way toward observing traffics with real TCP flow characteristics. To achieve this end, trace replay techniques for TCP traffic traces are presented. Finally, experiments lead to successful anomaly estimation under real traffic conditions.

In this article, we are interested in analysing the stability of systems that incorporate time-varying delays in their dynamic. The Lyapunov-Krasovskii approach is definitely the most popular method to address this issue and many results have proposed new functionals and enhanced techniques for deriving less conservative stability conditions. In the present work, we propose an original approach: the quadratic separation. To this end, the delay operator properties are exploited to provide delay range stability conditions. In particular, L2-norm of delay-dependent operators are computed so as to reduce the conservatism of the approach. Moreover, the main result is able to assess the stability of non-small delay systems, i.e, it can detect a stability interval for systems that are unstable without any delay. Several examples illustrate the benefit of our methodology.

The paper addresses the stability problem of linear time delay system. In the literature, the most popular approach to tackle this problem relies on the use of Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals. Many results have proposed new functionals and techniques for deriving less and less conservative stability conditions. Nevertheless, all these approaches use the same trick, the well-known Jensen's inequality which generally induces some conservatism difficult to overcome. In light of those observations, we propose to reduce the conservatism of Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals by introducing new classes of integral inequalities called Wirtinger inequalities. This integral type inequality is rstly shown to encompass Jensen's inequality and is then employed to derive new stability conditions. To this end, a slightly modi ed Lyapunov functional is proposed. Several examples illustrate the e ectiveness of our methodology.
