Supervisory control and monitoring

This domain is intermediary between the elaboration of a previsional management policy and the real-time local control of the process. Supervisory control and monitoring are in charge of the real-time execution of the manufaturing plan in a reactive way. Any deviation with respect to the plan as well as any failure of a physical device has to be detected as soon as possible, and then its consequences have to be evaluated. Currently, our major application domain is the supervisory control of hybrid (batch) production systems. In these systems, a raw material of a continuous nature is transformed by equipments which are either discrete (reactors for instance) or continuous (heat-exchange facilities for example). The work is based on formal tools such as Petri nets for specification, logic for reasoning, neural nets for learning abnormal sequences associated with fault occurences. Our approach comprises diagnosis, availability evaluation, safety, and the development of specific architectures for monitoring and supervisory control.
