Activity
The reduction in size of microelectronic
devices has been an important incentive, since 1960, for research in the field
of Materials Science and Technology. Today, the size reduction trend has reached
an ultimate level where a qualitative jump has to be performed. The new generations
of electronic devices are supposed to rely on nanotechnologies where sizes
of few atoms have to be processed, and where single particle effects are fundamental
for the device operation.
The objective of the present network
is to integrate new atomistic TCAD tools in the existing conventional packages
with the aim of introducing atomic scale effects in the design of nanosize devices.
The exchange of competences and the concerted action is aimed at rising the individual potentialities of the partners :
- to collect the atomistic tools and methods already
available, developed by the participating members or outside the network,
- to organize these tools in the scheme of hierarchical
models, each model feeding parameters into the others, with the scope of replacing
present adjustable parameters by more physical ones,
- to link these tools and to implement them in conventional
tools, such that one or more levels of hierarchical models could be activated
to solve specific problems,
- to offer expertise to industrial partners.
