Characterization Platform

The LAAS Characterization Platform pools and organizes all the micro and nanosystems characterization facilities available at LAAS in the following domains : electric, microwave, optics and micro/nano systems for chemistry and biology.
The Characterization Platform supports characterization activity for 7 research groups and 2 technical services, under the technical help of Service 2i, and is managed by a Characterization committee.

Electrical DC et low frequency

This area includes electrical characterization benches for micro and nanosystems such as : I-V , C-V, impedance-meter, parametric test, curve tracers, Hall effect measurements, DLTS, etc.. It also provides 3 probe stations : I-V medium and high power, I-V low current and impedance measurements (up to 110MHz) .

Microwave

The LAAS is able to characterize the S parameters between 9 kHz and 110 GHz and between 140 and 220 GHz too. Spectral measurements under probes are performed from DC up to 90 GHz. Several setups have been developed for MEMS reliability (cycling, thermal impact due to microwave power,…) using in particular one cryogenic probe station.

The study of the noise is one historical activity: the low frequency noise, the phase noise and the high frequency can be measured. The generation and spectral purity measurements of “microwave-optical” systems are also performed. The study of antenna is one another field with for example one anechoic chamber certified between 1 GHz and 40 GHz.

Optics

The optics area gathers experimentations from LAAS researchers working within the optics/photonics domain. Experiments goes from materials optical characterization (PL, EPL from 12K to 300K, FTIR spectroscopy…) to passive (resonant grating filters…)  and active (VCSELS, PhC lasers, detectors, …) components characterization: current versus voltage and light versus current of VCSEL and edge emitting laser sources, divergence diagrams, spectral analysis, in visible and NIR range.
